Eating lunch at school

National School Lunch Program

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is designed to provide a healthy, balanced lunch to all students, up to age 18, attending public schools. Schools have rules they have to follow for serving lunch with the NSLP.  They have to offer something from every food group. They also try to make it as healthy as possible, but still offer options that students like and taste good.

Students must select at least 3 colors (food groups) from the options, and one of those must be a fruit or vegetable, to count as a full lunch. If not, they will have to pay for each individual item.
