What is exercise?

Exercise is a fancy word for moving or being active.

An easy way to get exercise is playing outside with friends, walking your dog, or playing a sport.

As long as you are moving, you are exercising.

There are 3 different types of physical activity: aerobic, muscle strengthening, and bone strengthening.

AEROBIC

These activities cause you to breathe harder and faster. They also make your heart beat harder and faster. Examples of aerobic activities are:

  • Swimming

  • Running

  • Dancing

  • Riding bicycle

  • Playing tag

MUSCLE

STRENGTHENING

These activities make your muscles work harder than they normally do, which makes them   stronger. Examples of muscle strengthening activities are:

  • Lifting weights

  • Climbing a tree

  • Playground monkey bars

  • Tug-O-War

BONE

STRENGTHENING

These activities put force on bones and make them stronger. Examples of bone strengthening activities are:

  • Playing basketball

  • Running

  • Playing tennis

  • Jumping/Hopscotch
